St.Monday's tips for
organising a barn dance

barn dance
Barn dance or ceilidh?
In England, they're much the same thing - an evening of dances for everyone. (Barn dance started out as the American term, while ceilidh is a Gaelic word.) They are ideal for weddings and parties, where the guests can mix and enjoy themselves together.
~ You'll need a hall or space with a hard, even floor and plenty of room. Surprisingly, barns are not necessarily ideal, as earthen and concrete floors raise dust, and the acoustics may be poor. ~ Depending on the size of your hall, aim to sell at least 70 tickets. Barn dances are suitable for all ages - make it a family occasion or one just for the grown-ups. ~ We provide the sound system and a caller, who will explain all the
dances and make sure everyone has a good time. There's no need to
know about the dancing beforehand!
